Galaxy Season - Viewing and Photographing Our Neighboring Galaxies at Sandstone Ranch
This event is for people who would like to capture the beauty of the galaxies that are excellent targets in our night skies in June. If you've never looked at them, bring your telescope, or even just your binoculars, and learn where the best ones are located. If you have an astrophotography setup but haven't used it on galaxies before, bring it for this event and learn what works best. And of course, experienced astrophotographers are welcome! Once your equipment is set up, we'll head indoors for a PowerPoint presentation and Q&A with Tommy Lease, one of the DAS's astrophotography special interest group's monthly meeting leaders. When it's dark, Tommy will be assisting attendees with their setups and getting their pictures. If you know someone who lives in Douglas County but is NOT a DAS member, who would like to attend, please have them email info@denverastro.org for the code for Douglas County residents to sign up. We'd love to have them! NOTE: Please plan to arrive at the gate no later than 8:15 p.m. At that point, the gate will be closed and you will be unable to enter. Please leave home EARLY if this is your first time traveling to Sandstone Ranch. Recent guests noted that it was a lot farther away than they thought! You're also welcome to bring food, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages. Indoor restrooms or porta potties will be available. Questions can be emailed to info@denverastro.org.
NOTE #2: The gate will be OPEN for Check-In at 6:30 p.m. and will CLOSE promptly at 8:15 p.m. IF YOU CANNOT ARRIVE BEFORE 8:15 p.m., DO NOT SIGN UP. Late arrivals have frequently gotten lost and strayed onto the wrong property, and we cannot risk having this happen again!
The guest list will be finalized on Thursday, June 27 and at that point I will email everyone on it with an address and specific driving instructions to the entry point for Sandstone Ranch, as well as the waiver. If this is your first time visiting the Ranch, you'll need to sign and date the waiver and bring it with you. Note of Caution: DO NOT USE your GPS to go to "Sandstone Ranch." There are several places with that name and you will not get to the right location! Use the address that I send you, look for the sharp turn in the satellite map I send you, and look for that "house number" on one of the big posts at the gate.
