Planets, Winter Constellations, and More Bright Delights at Sandstone Ranch

This event is for people who would like to see a few planets, our Winter guests (like the Orion Constellation and Nebula), the Pleiades, and other captivating cosmic objects. Whether you see them naked eye, with binoculars, or with your telescope, these objects will bring you holiday joy! We won't have any instruction for astrophotographers at this event, but you're welcome to attend whether you'd like to do imaging or just observe. If you bring a telescope or binoculars, please be willing to share views with our guests who have no equipment.

Please note - if there is more than one person in your party, each person needs to register separately.

NOTE #1: This is NOT a two-day event.  We hope the weather will be great on December 27, but if it isn't, and the forecast looks better for December 28, we will postpone one day and hold this event on December 28. I will keep you closely informed via email, so keep an eye on your in-box!

NOTE #2: Please plan to arrive at the gate no later than 4:30 p.m. At that point, the gate will be closed and you will be unable to enter. Please leave home EARLY if this is your first time traveling to Sandstone Ranch. Recent guests noted that it was a lot farther away than they thought! You're also welcome to bring food, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages. Indoor restrooms or porta potties will be available. Questions can be emailed to info@denverastro.org.

NOTE #3: The gate will be OPEN for Check-In at 3:30 p.m. and will CLOSE promptly at 4:30 p.m.  IF YOU CANNOT ARRIVE BEFORE 4:30 p.m., DO NOT SIGN UP.  Late arrivals have frequently gotten lost and strayed onto the wrong property, and we cannot risk having this happen again!

The guest list will be finalized on Thursday, December 26 and at that point I will email everyone on it with an address and specific driving instructions to the entry point for Sandstone Ranch, as well as the waiver.  If this is your first time visiting the Ranch, you'll need to sign and date the waiver and bring it with you.

Note of Caution: DO NOT USE your GPS to go to "Sandstone Ranch." There are several places with that name and you will not get to the right location! Use the address that I send you, look for the sharp turn in the satellite map I send you, and look for that "house number" on one of the big posts at the gate.  Also, be aware that the I-25 Frontage Road on the west side of I-25 is closed from a little south of Plum Creek Parkway all the way to Tomah Road. The alternate routes to Sandstone Ranch are to take Wolfensberger Road to Perry Park Road, or to take I-25 to the Tomah Road exit and then drive North on the Frontage Road to reach Tomah Road.

Register now to participate in this event at the beautiful setting of Douglas County Open Space's Sandstone Ranch, near Perry Park.
